On 27 March, the MJF (Merrill J. Fernando) Centre Moratuwa will host its inaugural Night Market, a street food fiesta with a cause, where residents of Moratuwa can get together for an evening of food, music, entertainment, and shopping. 

On 22nd  March, the Merrill J. Fernando (MJF) Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with Dilmah Tea, will be hosting the online virtual event titled “The Down Syndrome Virtual Day” at 4.30 p.m. via Facebook Live and Zoom.

Lessons from the Dilmah CEO on replicating the success of Ceylon Tea

Tea is one of Sri Lanka’s most prolific industries. Ceylon Tea is sought the world over, and though Sri Lanka’s tea industry is only 150 years old, we simply cannot picture a world without our tea. 

The t-Lounge by Dilmah, an upscale location designed with the hopes of providing their guests with a place to relax and appreciate the fine art of tea, recently launched their range of liquor-infused chai on 3 February at the t-lounge at One Galle Face, by the Founder of Dilmah Merrill J. Fernando, along with his son Dilhan C. Fernando. 

“Protect Sri Lanka’s wildlife” is a refrain we hear again and again from both state and private conservationists. As of 2015, Sri Lanka contained a total of 26 national parks which collectively cover 5,734 km2,  almost 9% of Sri Lanka’s total area (65,610 km2). Inside these national parks, the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Forest Department hold sway, observing and protecting the flora and fauna within.

A collaborative partnership of a variety of actors, the Peak Ridge Forest Corridor Collaboration, is coming together to identify key wilderness and mixed landscape areas of importance to leopard conservation in this unprotected Central Highlands area.

The Dilmah School of Tea Alumni, Dilmah Tea, and Dilmah Tea Gastronomy will be hosting an international webinar, catered towards professionals in the hospitality industry and a non-professional audience  with a keen interest in tea. 

 British Council Sri Lanka initiated a grant scheme to build capacity and empower artists, gender activists, and development organisations who want to raise awareness, broker conversation, and address issues relating to gender equality and empowerment. This programme took place under the platform “Voices and Choices”, with eight change agents being seed-funded to implement their proposals. The Sunday Morning Brunch spoke to three of these change agents about their projects, and how they are driving change and fighting for women and girls. 

Dilmah Conservation in partnership with AiGrow looks towards bridging the gap between technology and the farming community by creating awareness on global agricultural shifts.

“Celebrating Differences” is an annual gathering hosted by the Merrill J. Fernando (MJF) Charitable Foundation, at which every child feels the true spirit of Christmas. For the past 14 years, every December, children and youths of all abilities and ages, came together on stage to capture hearts with their individual charms.
