Delft Island Conservation

Delft Island, located on the Palk Straight, to the southwest of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, is rich in history, culture and biodiversity; it is also home to an extraordinary population of wild horses along with a wide array of both terrestrial and marine life.

Dilmah Conservation is establishing a programme in Delft to address issues regarding inadequate supplies of drinking water which is affecting both the island’s residents and its diminishing wild horse populations. In addition, the project aims to establish sustainable livelihood opportunities for the local community and facilitate the conservation of the island’s heritage sites.
