Sri Lankan tea, including Dilmah tea, has been recognised as the cleanest tea in the world with respect to pesticide residues, a fact confirmed by the ISO Technical Committee. All Dilmah tea is tested to ensure compliance with the most stringent international pesticide regulations, including those of the European Union and Japan, with pesticide residues maintained well below Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for various pesticides established under these regulations. Pesticide Residue Limits compliance is verified through independent laboratory testing, conducted according to Dilmah’s established systems and procedures to ensure product safety. Additionally, Dilmah is certified under both BRC and FSSC 22000 food safety management systems, further demonstrating our commitment to producing high-quality and safe tea products. The Sri Lanka Tea Board is the apex regulatory and administrative body of the Sri Lankan tea industry and is responsible for introducing and implementing standards and directives for Sri Lankan Origin Teas to protect the global reputation of Ceylon tea. These directives, including those related to MRLs for pesticides in Ceylon tea, must be complied with by all registered manufacturers and exporters of Sri Lankan origin tea, including Dilmah. Accordingly, tea growers are required to adhere to Good Agricultural Practices and follow the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka recommended pesticide types and application methods, promoting minimised and safe pesticide application.
