Parent of a Child with Cerebral Palsy who comes to Rainbow Centre in Moratuwa

My son Sisuru was born as a premature baby and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP) Sisuru has been with the MJF Centre Moratuwa for almost 5 years. In the beginning, he was extremely hyperactive and difficult to control. He would throw tantrums and distance himself from all the activities. Sisuru is 18 years old now. He loves to connect with yoga & music. He finds pleasure in

skimming through the pages of magazines. As a mother, I learn a lot about CP by sitting through his learning sessions. Raising a child like Sisuru requires a lot of patience. The teachers here are doing an amazing job at that. I know that I can not promise him a life without pain, struggles, and challenges. But the least I could do is to help him become less dependent and find happiness in life that would make him forget his fears. Children with disabilities often live a life limited by a lack of understanding, awareness and statelevel support in accessing assistive resources and facilities. My husband who is a Medical Administrator at the Health Ministry commends the efforts of MJF Foundation in providing services free of charge at the Physiotherapy Unit. The MJF Centre in Moratuwa is a great example of private sector involvement in serving the vulnerable community. We appreciate what Merrill J. Fernando does for people and the environment through Dilmah Tea. The place with its people and beautiful surroundings create an uplifting environment for children and parents like us to summon up the strength to get through our daily grind.
